xx Dec 56 - 1st F-106 produced by Convair at San Diego CA. It actually carried the YF-106 moniker as it was specifically (by contract) to be the one and only prototype from Convair. 56-0452 and 453 were also test and eval birds, but not prototypes. And all three were technically F-102B models while wearing the 'FC' Buzz Code letters on the fuselage (even though photos show 'CONVAIR F-106' stenciled on the nose. The F-106 Buzz Code became the familiar 'FE'.
14 Dec 56 - Trucked from Convair to AFFTC Edwards AFB CA 22 Dec 56 - Taxi tests started 26 Dec 56 - First flight (Air abort, air turbine motor frequency fluctuations, speed boards opened & wouldn't close. 20 minute flight, 30K & 0.8M). The first flight was made by Convair test pilot Richard L. Johnson. 23 Mar 60 - Retired to the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB OH (Painted in at least four versions before being moved to the Selfridge Museum 07 Apr 89 - Moved to Selfridge AFB MI for static display

Fuselage cut in half at station 412 (Aft bulkhead missile bay) and a new fuselage, cockpit section, and nose section was installed with the latest production avionics, the same as the last F-106A 590148 and F-106B 590165.
