Stationed with 32nd CAMRON and then 5th FIS (after SAC took over base control) at Minot AFB, No. Dakota after basic and jet fighter mechanic training in Texas from 27 July, 1960 thru 17 February, 1964. Asst. Crew Chief, F-106B, 59-901; F-106As (57 or) 59-236 and 59-014. Crew Chief of F-106A 59-001 for Col. Jack Broughton (former Cmdr. of the Thunderbirds before coming to Minot), Commander of 5th FIS and the 1st to lead F-106s in formation flying as the well burned tail of 014 showed! Also held some tenure in the periodic maintenance hangar and was, for over a year, Airman in charge of one 24 hour shift of enlisted alert shack coverage.
