I was on an F-106 crash site near L'anse, MI in 1979(?). I was in the 410th SPS and was chosen to go with the recovery team to secure that crash site for several days. They all went to hotels and we (3 of us) camped at the site. It spun in like a frisbee and landed mostly intact. The entire nose and cockpit was burned to the intakes. 1 wing was burned (left I think) and the tail was snapped off. I believe the canopy was in a swamp and 2 airmen waded out to get it. The entire crash-site was relatively small.

Stationed at Fresno 1968 - 1970. Was in Fresno summer 2011, The Detachment was closed down and secured. Could only see through the fence. That side of the runway is now developed into commercial sites.
Great memories of FAT!
