I was up at Detachment 1 (Middletown,Pa) when this one went in and we heard a different story. We were told that it was coming in for a landing at a to high a nose attitude and flipped! Never saw any pictures This looks like the afterburner fuel lines were leaking.
Looking through the pictures brings back a few memory's like that cold damn flight line in the winter and all those wires we had to swap on generator changes! Old Shorty had some words about losing his birds.

Col. Price was the commander when we moved to Castle AFB in 1963 from Elmendorf AFB where my father was in the 317th FIS under command of Col. Joseph Rogers. My father, Charles "Chuck" Anonsen was a Captain then, and 2 years later was the captain of the 1965 William Tell team of the 456th.
