I was driving the 539th MA-1 Avionics truck that day. Chief of Maintenance jumped in with me and told me to get to crash site ASAP. It was an old ford P/U with a special camper type bed for carrying MA-1 Black Boxes. I floored the Ford which had a big V-8 and it billowed smoke all the way to 468.
The pilot was standing next to it as firemen put out flames. The pilot was wearing the old shoes from original ejection seat. The metal brackets where shoe cables attached made gashes in radome as he basically ran down radome to exit aircraft.
