I remember these guys quite well. I really enjoyed working with them as well as the other guys I worked with on the other assignments. My last assignment was 13 years out on Long Island, New York working at Grumman Aircraft Company where Grumman built the F-14 for the Navy and Hughes built the radar system. I also enjoyed working with these Grumman guys.

This acft was coming back and its nose gear would not extend. I did not witness the landing because there were enough supervisors out there. I was told that he was delaying landing as they tried to figure out how to get the gear to extend. Also I was told they were discussing whether the pilot should have the canopy open or closed. (Not sure if this was in the discussion, just what I was told) Eventually left it closed and landed and finally stopped when the pitot tube went under the cable which traveled down the backbone inbedding itself in the V Stab bringing the acft to an abrupt halt. Acft was hanger queen and used for part for a long time when all of a sudden they wanted it fixed driving the crew chief close to tears each day wanting to know why it was not being fixed.
