This was likely taken in 1982 when 144th FIW Wing Commander Brig Gen Kilpatrick retired and Brig Gen Ed Aguirre assumed the role. First on Gen Aguirre's agenda was to removed the well known California Bear tail and replace it with the less popular blue tail stripe. This move wasn't very popular.

Just wondering who gave you guys permission to give my Airplane such a silly name.LOL.I was the Crew Chief on 010 ON that sad day she left Minot for the last time. She!!!!!!!!!!! Gave me tons of pleasure. Also many Dedicated Crew Chief of the month awards. She was just reconstructed when i got to 5th FIS.I must have put 10000 gallons of turtle wax spray wax on her when she had my name on her door. And Capt Letuorno's name on the canopy. She is a great aircraft and im very glad to see her preserved. She deserved a much better ending to her flying career than being shot down by some F-15 or F16.Thanks for taking care of my plane.I have to get out there and see her some day
