I was an Air Force Law Enforcement Specialist at Beale AFB in 1972, 73 and 74, and when the threat level went up (DEFCON), I was assigned as an entry controller for the Battle Staff Room in our SAGE facility. I had a book of people authorized entry, if your badge matched, I let you into the sally port, a small room with doors at both ends so only one person could enter at a time. If something went wrong you could be trapped in this exclusion area. If you were denied entry you were at the start of a really bad day. If you checked out you got in.Sorry, you could not try and leave, use of deadly force was authorized in this area. This was during the cold war, on a Strategic Air Command base and home to a Bomb Wing and a Recon Wing (Home of the SR 71) so that should give an idea of the assets that were there. I hope Obama grows up and gets a pair, I wouldn't want Putin to return the world to those days. There were times I knew things that scared the hell out of me.
