while the 95th FIS was being brought back from Korea to Dover AFB, Delaware in 1970, I was still in Tech School at Chanute AFB, Illinois receiving an education in Avionics. I graduated and received my orders to become a part of the 95th in Dover, Delaware in Sept of 1970. When I had arrived in Dover, the talk was still strong amongst the airmen who had served in Korea, but one by one they transferred or were honorably discharged. When newer fighter planes were returning back from Viet Nam, the notice came that most of the remaining F-106s country wide were going to be given to several Air Force Reserve units across the USA, and also that the 95th was going to be retired; it came as a big blow to many who served in the 95th FIS. I was temporarily shipped TDY to Hamilton AFB for a few weeks to update many of the F106s from the old air instruments to computerized instruments before they were delivered to the "Air Force Reserve" units. I was returned to Dover, and became part of the 486th Military Air Wing on the other side of the base that worked on C-5As, C-130s, and C-141s until 1973. It was interesting that, except for a couple TDYs, I spent my whole tour in Dover, Delaware, but received orders to work at two separate installations while stationed there.
