The 460 FIS with F-106's was at three locations: Oxnard AFB CA 30 Sep 68-01 Dec 69, Kingsley Field OR and Grand Forks AFB ND 16 Apr 71-15 Jul 74.

The 460 FIS was reactivated with the F-106 Delta Dart in September 1968 at Oxnard AFB, CA using F-106's from the short-lived 437 FIS, who received their aircraft from the 456 FIS Castle AFB, CA.  The 460 initially kept the same tail flash colors as the 437 FIS which had been carried over to the 437th from the 456 FIS.  The 460 FIS would later (sooner) have it's own unique tail flash design.

The 460 FIS moved to Kingsley Field in November 1969 and then to Grand Forks AFB in April 1971. During its time at Grand Forks AFB the originally assigned F-106's were sent to the 186 FIS at Great Falls MT ANG in April 1972 and were replaced with the F-106s from the discontinued 319 FIS from Malmstrom AFB MT.

The 460 FIS was deactivated on 15 Jul 1974 with the majority of the F-106s reassigned to the 194 FIS Fresno CA ANG.

Reactivated briefly in early 1982 as an Air Defense Training the 460 Fighter Interceptor Training Squadron (FITS) provided F-106 pilot training under ADWC at Tyndall AFB, Florida.  The 460 FITS was inactivated late the same year 1982.
